Phantom Rolls Out Custom Usernames, Paving the Way for Easier Web3 Onboarding

Phantom's latest update introduces custom usernames, aiming to simplify cryptocurrency transactions, enhance user experience, and make Web3 more accessible to a broader audience.

Phantom, a prominent Solana wallet recognized for its wide user adoption, has unveiled a new feature designed to simplify cryptocurrency transactions. Users can now create custom usernames, replacing complex wallet addresses with personalized identifiers for sending and receiving crypto.

This update aims to improve user experience by making crypto transactions more intuitive. By allowing the use of recognizable usernames instead of lengthy alphanumeric addresses, Phantom hopes to reduce the risk of errors and streamline the process. Additional features include synchronized settings across devices, an integrated address book, and customizable avatars, further enhancing the overall experience.

Phantom emphasizes that the adoption of usernames is optional, and users maintain complete control over their data. Sensitive information like seed phrases and private keys remain separate from the username system, prioritizing security and user privacy.

Rollout to Prioritize Early Adopters

The rollout of this new feature will be phased, with early Phantom users gaining access first. Eligible users will receive a banner notification with a link to claim their custom username.

Commitment to Mass Adoption

Phantom has been actively working towards greater mainstream adoption of cryptocurrency this year. Notably, they acquired Bitski in May, a company specializing in embedded wallet technology. This technology simplifies the onboarding process for new users, allowing them to sign into decentralized applications (dApps) using familiar credentials like email addresses or social media accounts, eliminating the need to manage complex seed phrases.

As one of the OG and most popular Solana wallets, Phantom's updates significantly influence the Web3 landscape. A recent report indicates $30 million in revenue from in-app swaps on Solana, indicating that the platform continues to play a key role in the ecosystem's growth.

By introducing custom usernames, acquiring innovative technologies, and prioritizing user experience, Phantom is making strides toward increasing Web3's accessibility. These efforts align with the company's broader mission to simplify cryptocurrency interactions and onboard a wider audience.
