KillaGames, the web3 gaming studio founded by the creators of the KILLABEARS brand, has announced the launch of their successful mobile game "Monster Merge" on the Solana Saga dApp store. This move is notable as it brings an established mobile game with over 10 million downloads on iOS and Android into the web3 ecosystem.

The launch comes after the successful pre-order phase of Solana mobile  Chapter Two, which has already seen over 139,000 pre-orders. KillaGames sees this growing Solana Mobile user base as a significant opportunity to introduce web3 gaming to a broader audience.

Monster Merge has previously secured a licensing deal with Cartoon Network and garnered thousands of 5-star reviews. Its debut on the Saga dApp store aligns with KillaGames' goal to support Solana Mobile's mission of challenging the current app store landscape.

According to Killabears, in addition to KillaGames, they also have a live-action movie in development in partnership with actor/producer Seth Green's Emmy-nominated Stoopid Buddy Stoodios.

Ben Cohen, Co-Founder of KillaGames, stated, "As a bootstrapped indie studio, we felt the pain of big tech platforms' 30% tax on in-app purchases. Contributing proven content to the Solana Mobile ecosystem allows us to challenge this status quo, create more player value, and support fellow game devs sidelined by these outrageous fees."

Cohen's sentiment echoes Solana co-founder Anatoly Yakovenko's vision of challenging the duopoly of Apple and Google's app stores, highlighting the potential for web3 to disrupt traditional mobile gaming distribution.

KillaBears, originally an Ethereum-based project, faced challenges due to high transaction fees and slow speeds on the Ethereum network. KillaBears migrated its KILLABEARS and KILLACUBS NFT collections to the Solana network in March 2024. This move marked a significant milestone as it was the first-ever NFT project to migrate to Solana.

In an interview with SolanaFloor, CEO Ben Cohen emphasized Solana's lightning-fast transactions and low costs as key factors in the decision, stating, "What we started to feel, on ETH, was that no matter how great we made an experience, the speed of the blockchain transaction and sometimes the cost would sour the experience of the user." Solana's infrastructure addressed these pain points, enabling KillaBears to provide a smoother and more enjoyable user experience.

KillaGames has plans to launch more games on the Saga platform, expanding their "Killaverse" and preparing for new Saga 2 users. With Monster Merge as their first offering, KillaGames aims to leverage Solana's technology to establish a strong presence in the growing web3 casual gaming sector.
