Hivemapper’s Asia expansion is in full swing and shows no sign of slowing down. With mapping coverage progressing five times faster than tech giants like Google, Hivemapper is taking bold steps into the future of the automotive industry.
Hivemapper Joins Forces with DMM Crypto, Coin.ph
On August 19th, Hivemapper announced its collaboration with DMM Crypto, the Web3-focussed subsidiary of multibillion-dollar Japanese tech conglomerate DMM Group. Additionally, the Solana DePIN provider has also partnered with Coin.ph, the largest cryptocurrency exchange in the Philippines.
The collaboration enables Hivemapper to produce and distribute educational materials throughout the region in local languages, bolstering Hivemapper’s presence in the area. Moreover, both DMM Crypto and Coins.ph will also act as local operators, supplying Hivemapper dashcams to commercial fleets across the region.
”We are pleased to form a partner alliance with Hivemapper, one of the world's leading DePIN projects. Our goal is to strongly promote the mass adoption of web3 in Japan through the promotion of Hivemapper in Japan and the support of its regulatory compliance. Therefore, with the support of the Japanese government agency "JETRO" (Japan External Trade Organization), we plan to launch a large-scale demonstration experiment using the Hivemapper Fleet.” - Nagato Kasaki, DMM Crypto CEO.
Asia has already proven itself as the leading region for Hivemapper adoption and coverage. According to Hivemapper Explorer, all-time mapping coverage in East Asia currently sits at 44%, outperforming North America and Europe.
CEO Targets Commercial Expansion
Having mapped 25% of the global road networks, Hivemapper now turns its attention to commercial expansion. Developing closer relations with vehicle manufacturers and logistics companies throughout Asia, Hivemapper is positioning itself for a changing automotive industry.
Due to the emergence of self-driving vehicles, street-level imaging and coverage are expected to witness increased demand. From a safety and efficiency perspective, autonomous vehicles require precise mapping data and training to interpret their environments.
“Step one was proof-of-concept. Now, we get to work closely with mapping companies, logistic companies, and auto manufacturers to refine our product, further reduce network costs and stimulate coverage in targeted geographies.” - Ariel Seidman, Hivemapper founder and CEO.
By further establishing its presence in Japan, a nation that produced over 8M vehicles in 2023, Hivemapper promises to provide a more comprehensive and widespread global mapping network through its novel BEE dashcam.
Hivemapper Contributor Retention Rate Hits New All-Time High
On the ground, Hivemapper usage statistics are encouraging. According to Syndica’s July Solana DePIN Deep Dive report, Hivemapper contributors are proving their loyalty. The report suggests that, of 8,000 new users captured in May, 64% of contributors have continued to use the protocol two months later.
Additionally, Hivemapper has witnessed its most consistent four-month stretch in map demand. By selling mapping data to commercial clients, the Hivemapper protocol burns $HONEY, the protocol’s native token.
According to Syndica’s report, over $21,000 worth of $HONEY tokens were burnt in July, representing a 7% increase from token burns in June.
With this key partnership secured, Hivemapper now intends to shift its focus to simplifying map data purchases and enhancing its commercial fleet management offerings.
