Solana’s DePIN sector continues to penetrate Web2 markets on its path to mass adoption. Hivemapper, a Solana DePIN project, has teamed up with TomTom, the world’s leading real-time traffic data services and navigation provider.
The partnership is expected to accelerate demand for Hivemapper’s DePIN-powered mapping data, which is already recognized as the world’s fastest-growing map project.
How will the TomTom partnership boost Hivemapper’s global coverage and drive value to its native token, $HONEY?
TomTom Sides With World’s Fastest-Growing Map Project
Hivemapper, a Solana DePIN project mapping the world’s roads, has announced its partnership with TomTom, the world’s leading real-time traffic data and navigation services provider.
Through the collaboration, Hivemapper will provide TomTom with accurate, real-time traffic data and mapping services. With over 600M devices across 84 countries worldwide, TomTom is one of the world’s leading traffic data providers, edging out Big Tech heavyweights like Google and Apple.
The partnership illustrates Hivemapper’s rapidly growing influence in the traffic and mapping data market, and is expected to drive sustainable value to the $HONEY token.
Through Hivemapper’s DePIN-powered model, customers like TomTom must purchase map credits whenever they consume Hivemapper data, indirectly burning $HONEY tokens. Newly minted $HONEY tokens are distributed to Hivemapper contributors, rewarding the map data providers and AI trainers that make up the Hivemapper network.
Hivemapper Covers 31% of Global Road Network
According to its explorer, Hivemapper is the fastest-growing map project in history. Currently, Hivemapper contributors have mapped over 31% of the global road network, earning $HONEY rewards in exchange for their services.
Dune Analytics data suggests that, since September 2023, over 243.9M $HONEY (valued at $10.6M) has been distributed to Hivemapper contributors. In the last week alone, over 4,800 contributors have received rewards, with the largest recipient earning 8,900 $HONEY.
Hivemapper data indicates that the majority of its contributors are based in East Asia. With over 158,000 individuals providing mapping data and AI training services, Hivemapper statistics indicate that 37% of the network’s coverage is in the East Asia region. This is followed by 26% in the USA, 20% in Europe, and 19% in Canada.
$HONEY Up 11%
Markets reacted positively to the announcement, with traders evidently optimistic Hivemapper’s latest partnership and the abundance of map credits TomTom is expected to purchase.
Running from $0.04 to a local high of $0.0446, $HONEY spiked 11% within a 24-hour time frame. With the initial excitement wearing off, $HONEY has retraced slightly, currently trading hands at $0.043.
