Helium has successfully delivered on its ambitious vision and flipped the traditional Telco industry on its head.
Undercutting Telco heavyweights across the United States, the Solana-based DePIN provider has launched a completely free mobile plan, bringing free internet access to millions.
Beyond delivering free mobile internet to the masses, Helium’s triumph serves as a critical Proof-of-Concept, bringing greater credibility to the entire DePIN sector.
Helium Launches Free Mobile Plan
Since its original launch in 2020, Helium has always believed that access to the internet in the modern world is not a privilege, but a fundamental right. To that end, Helium has finally broken the telecommunications industry’s status quo, offering a completely free mobile plan to the public.
In exchange for sharing anonymized data, Helium mobile subscribers can now opt-in to the provider’s new Zero Plan.
On top of 3GB of mobile data, 300 text messages, and 100 minutes of call time, Zero Plan subscribers earn Cloud Points, which can be redeemed for a variety of goods and services through platforms like Airbnb, Netflix, and Amazon.
Helium Mobile’s General Manager of Subscribers, Coco Tang, highlighted how the Zero Plan represents a fundamental pillar of the project’s philosophy.
“Connectivity is a basic human need, not a luxury. For too long, the telecom industry has put profits over people. With the Zero Plan, we’re flipping the script—making mobile service accessible, rewarding, and built for real lives.” - Coco Tang, General Manager of Helium Mobile Subscribers
The Zero Plan comes just weeks after Helium announced a critical partnership with fellow DePIN provider DAWN.
According to Messari researchers, the DePIN internet duopoly could collectively save Americans up to $200B a year in internet costs.
Hotspot Operators Earning $2.63 Per Day
One of crypto’s oldest and DePIN projects, the Helium Mobile network continues to provide sustainable rewards to its contributors.
According to Helium data, mobile hotspot operators are currently earning around $2.63 per day in exchange for facilitating data transfer across the network.
Helium mobile currently handles over 20TB per day in data transfer, increasing demand for Helium data credits and driving value to $HNT through the ecosystem’s mint-and-burn equilibrium.
Helium Growth Benefits All DePIN
Helium’s new free mobile plan is a triumph not only for the Helium network itself, but also for Solana’s wider DePIN sector.
Helium’s success for both customers and contributors serves as a Proof-of-Concept for DePIN systems, highlighting a meaningful alternative to centralized providers. By offering a free and inclusive mobile plan that simultaneously benefits infrastructure contributors and end-users, Helium lends greater credibility to DePIN as a competitor to traditional services.
