Helium, a decentralized wireless network for Internet of Things (IoT) devices, has announced that it will completely transition to the Solana blockchain by March 27th. The move is expected to enhance the scalability and speed of Helium's blockchain infrastructure, which currently operates on the Helium blockchain.
The move was originally announced back in September, with the announcement occurring at Solana's conference, Breakpoint. In a groundbreaking partnership with the Solana Foundation, Helium will support the Saga Smartphone, creating the only crypto-first mobile device that can compete with companies like Apple and Verizon.
The migration to Solana is expected to reduce transaction costs and increase transaction throughput, which will ultimately improve the user experience for Helium's community of IoT device operators and miners.
The decision to migrate to Solana is part of Helium's broader strategy to improve its infrastructure and enable greater adoption of its network.
"Not only will this partnership ultimately drive usage to the Helium Network,” Boris Renski, GM of wireless at Nova Labs said, “but Saga customers who sign up for Helium Mobile will be able to have a seamless and integrated user experience and could earn crypto rewards for using their cell service.”
