The Axiom Foundation has unveiled an exciting new partnership with GolfN, pioneering a new synthesis of Play-to-Earn gaming with real-world golf. This collaboration marks a key turning point for the sector, integrating Web3 technology into one of the world’s most popular sports.
As part of a broader strategy, the Axiom Foundation has also secured several partnerships with other stalwarts of the Solana ecosystem, including Bonk, Degen Ape Academy, and Kanpai Pandas.
Golf Meets Blockchain
A non-profit foundation, Axiom has committed to providing essential blockchain infrastructure for GolfN’s engaging and rewarding platform. As part of the collaboration, an initial allocation of Axiom’s $GOLF has been set aside for use within GolfN’s upcoming app. Additionally, Axiom’s innovative caching system will also be used to power GolfN’s collectible golf club NFT collection.
Jared Philips, GolfN CEO, has expressed enthusiasm for the collaboration:
“Web3 is long overdue for a green grass, Play-to-earn experience. It's been six years since P2E emerged in Web3, and yet GolfN is one of the first projects to get serious about building a P2E gamification layer into a physical sport. At an average cost of $43 per round, golf is ripe for this transformation. Imagine a Caddie App that tells you which club to hit on each shot, manages your social side games, and rewards you for every round, We’re going to flip the model and let the value of engagement accrue to the golfer.”
The Axiom App
Golf enthusiasts on Solana rejoiced when, earlier this year, the Axiom Foundation revealed the future launch and utility of the platform’s native token, $GOLF. Beyond creating a thriving internal economy, Axiom has also developed an innovative Caching Portal built on the Solana blockchain.
Through this novel platform, users and golfers can generate rewards by leveraging Axiom-approved collectibles. Highlighting the protocol’s commitment to user security, these collectibles accumulate rewards without ever leaving the player’s wallet, giving golfers the world over peace of mind.
Mike Robinson, Managing Director at Axiom, considers the intersection of blockchain technology and real-world golf an untapped juncture with immense growth potential. Leveraging the global public’s passion and love for golf, Robinson is ecstatic to present a new way of playing the historic sport.
“We’re looking forward to accelerating the growth of a groundbreaking project at the frontline of P2E’s emergence in global sports engagement,”
“Measured globally, the average person spends nearly two hours daily engaging with Sports – playing, watching, strategizing. That level of engagement could cost an advertiser anywhere from $200 - $600 a month in the attention economy. Axiom’s goal is to connect players with some of that value, in the case of GolfN, enabling users’ sports obsession to offset their monthly golf budget. Getting an effective P2E layer into a physical sport like Golf and its surrounding ecosystem is a key milestone for the entire industry. Axiom is confident that GolfN can get this done correctly and at speed.”
A Fresh Start for the Web3 Sports Market
The Axiom X GolfN signals the potential return of a burgeoning web3 sports market. While dozens of fitness and sports-based applications have been developed using blockchain technology, none have truly enjoyed high adoption rates.
However, there have been exceptions to this trend. StepN, a wildly popular move-to-earn application launched in 2021, attracted over 700,000 monthly users at its peak. However, further adoption of the platform was hamstrung by its hyperinflationary economic design.
Fortunately, modern Web3 sports companies have learned from StepN’s mistakes. Instead of attracting users through unsustainable rewards programs, applications like Axiom and GolfN have instead focused their efforts on enriching and enhancing the player experience.
